Eight-spotted forester moths (mating)

Alypia octomaculata

Description:

Adult: forewing black (bluish sheen visible when fresh) with two large yellow or cream-colored patches; hindwing black with two large white patches; prominent hairy yellow shoulder stripes (tegulae); legs with prominent tufts of orange hair-like scales. (information from BugGuide)

Habitat:

Walkway at Tulsa Zoo

Notes:

These 2 were not bothered by my presence in the least. I wish I had had my camera on me, but I was working and only had my cell phone camera. Thankfully it has a macro setting and I managed a couple of decent shots. Thanks to Jacob G. for the ID confirmation.

Thanks, everyone. It was a chance spotting and I was lucky that I had my cell phone and it was sunny. I'm pleased with the shots I ended up with, especially considering the circumstance.

I love how they look the same size in the side view but then the top-down view shows the true sizes.
