Lepanthes arbuscula
small orchid, terrestrial
cloudforest, 3300m
I spotted this along the trail to the San Juan Thermals in Purace national park. These were on a steep slope on the side of the trail and it took some careful maneuvering to set up my tripod to get shots.
Thanks Michele and Matti for the ID. Looks like a match as the link is from the exact location I spotted it in.
It's more or less a guess from me, but a close match to L. arbuscula. L. ingridiana is otherwise very similar but has much longer sepal tips.
Maybe best. I'd be surprised if it's a Masdevallia as it looks to be sequential flowering on the same inflorecence & I've not seen one that does that. Sounds a bit on the large side for a Lepanthes though. Will keep digging when I get a chance.
Sorry Rieko to miss your comment, thanks and you are right, these flowers could be easily missed, I was keeping a sharp lookout for any orchids.
Maybe about 3/4" wide, I never thought of it being a Lepanthes but you may be right. Should I just leave it as unknown?
So simple and tiny flower and maybe many people may not even notice this beautiful flower.
