Western Osprey

Pandion haliaetus

Description:

This osprey pair has taken over a tall dead palm. At least one of them has been observed bringing food back to this location. A possible nesting site. I expect this will be preferable to the lights at the ball field. (Although, I have not checked to see if that pair is still at that location.)

Habitat:

Widespread throughout the Americas depending on time of year. A year-long FL resident. They are found near water as they mainly eat fish.

Notes:

The osprey is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. http://www.fws.gov/migratorybirds/Regula...
