Western Bluebird, male

Sialia mexicana

Description:

Very similar to the Eastern Bluebird, except the Western has a rusty "yoke" across the shoulders. A "lifer" for me.

Habitat:

By the ancient Kiva ruins, the Grand Canyon. Sort of a scrubby area.

Notes:

Aside from the bluebird, this was just a fascinating little nook in the massive National Park. Cacti were blooming, in every color imaginable! The ruins were cool too! If you go to the canyon, this is a nice place to stop at the end of a long hot day when the crowds thin out a bit. Very peaceful.
