Black Snail

Victaphanta atramentaria

Description:

Shell mainly dark brown to black, yellow-white in center, 4-5 whorls, orange edge on foot. Shell up to 4 cm across.

Habitat:

Deep leaf litter in cool temperate rainforests and wet sclerophyll forest.

Notes:

This species is the largest carnivorous snail in Victoria. They are related to the Otway Black Snail, Victaphanta compacta. It is listed as Near Threatened.
