Spotted Tiger Beetle

Cicindela aurulenta

Description:

Viewed up close, a myriad of metallic hues. Six whitish spots on the wing casing. Bulbous eyes and long, carnivorous jaws.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 1000m.

Notes:

A bug that I had failed to notice up until recently. It rarely flies more than a few inches from the ground, even though its flight ability would match that of a true fly, most unusual for a beetle.

so app. 1,5 cm? It really looks bigger and more fearsome! :)
