Daughter is currently, Jan. 2017, in Equador for a gap year trip (10 weeks) spotted similar beetle. Profile looks identical though there are coloration differences. Would be cool if we could link a picture to your spotting. Her spotting was near Otavalo and found during a community garden building event. I'm new to this site and will add a spotting for her.

Wow 10cm is huge! Ecuador has amazing wildlife. I hope we can ID this one.

It got an umbrella shaped pronotal horn. Very big, by the way, almost 10 cm long.
