Nice spotting! I would suggest flipping the images around so the closer cropped one is the preview of the spotting.

They come in both a gray and red phase, this site shows good photos of both, http://www.owlpages.com/owls.php?genus=M...
By the way, I'm super jealous of this since I haven't seen a red one yet!
