Slug

Cystopelta purpurea

Description:

This is a native species of slug that appears to be somewhere between a normal slug and a snail. The visceral mass, appears to be separated from the foot at the rear (this is the part permanently enclosed in the shell of a snail). The body colour is grey-brown to dark brown, sometimes with black, white and brown flecks and blotches. The tail is flat and has distinct veins on its upper surface. Body wide or swollen (due to large size of internal organs) with a flat tail. Colour grey, dark brown or green-grey. Up to 4 cm long.

Habitat:

This Cystopelta species belongs to a group of native slugs that are endemic to eastern and south-eastern Australia.

Notes:

These were all found on snow gums after a wet morning.
