Glossy Snake

Arizona elegans

Description:

Lifer :) Mostly brown snake with brown blotches on the back and sides. The belly is plain white. When I caught her, she was super faded and you could tell she was about to shed. I put her in a pillowcase til we got back to the building to photograph her and our other catches, and she had her shed skin rolled half way down her body. So we helped her finish shedding, so she is extra glossy in these photos :)

Habitat:

Found under tin in thorn scrub habitat. There was a male under the tin too, but he was barely sticking his head out of a burrow and retreated as soon as I lifted the tin. When we went to return the female, the male was sticking back out of the hole, but again went in the burrow.
