slime mold

Description:

Slime mold and/or fungi growing on the exposed stump surface of a recently felled dead or dying coconut tree (2nd photo).

Habitat:

The coconut (Cocos nucifera) tree had been growing in a large yard & garden in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

I had the tree, in fact, two coconut trees felled as a precautionary measure. Dead or dying, they were both struck by lightening in the same storm and probably the same bolt.
