Spotted Owlet

Athene brama

Description:

This owl is tiny-- a little more than seven inches tall-- and it was disgruntled with us for disturbing it while it roosted. So it tried to scare us off by bouncing up and down, leaning against the branch and standing upright again (demonstrated in the first and second pictures).

Thank you Reza Hasemizadeh and ShannaB! It isn't unusual to see spotted owlets in India; they're quite common sights in urban areas. But this was a lifer for me, and they're really cute, so it didn't really matter.
