Desert Monitor

Varanus griseaus

Description:

A very rare find in Qatar and what I believe to be only the second spotting of on PN! The desert monitor lizard population has declined rapidly since the 70's due to skin trade and habitat loss. This is a juvenile, with particularly pale skin, an adaptation to the desert environment it was found in (in vegetated areas this species is often more colourful).

Habitat:

Desert
