Tortoise leaf beetle

Paropsisterna annularis (pale form)

Description:

A new pale spotted leaf beetle! This is similar to Paropsisterna debilis which is pale or P. gloriosa which is bright.

Habitat:

A large old eucalyptus on the hilltop.

Notes:

Usually called P. gloriosa, I now believe this is P. annularis based on 1/ the annulus (ring) of six pale yellow spots on the apical half of the combined elytra. 2/ the description of these features by Blackburn (1899) 3/ dissection of a specimen (bright form) by Chris Reid. http://www.padil.gov.au/pests-and-diseas... http://bie.ala.org.au/species/Paropsiste...
