Habitat:

aquatic environments, cypress flats and wet prairies, and throughout the swamp in general.

Notes:

From the much larger size and darker color this was an older snake than the one I saw a few days before on the same trail. This one was also more inclined to live up to it's name by opening its mouth in a defensive threat posture. Don't worry the pictures are thanks to zoom and cropping; I wasn't that close.
