Cassowary

Casuarius casuarius,

Description:

BIG big bird. Black feathered body (adult) and distinctive purple / Blue/ Red and green coloured head. It has a weird bony thing on top of its head. The chick was brown.

Habitat:

On a driveway of a house near the jungle/ mangrove area / coast, at Etty Bay, Queensland, Australia.

Notes:

Pretty and ugly at the same time. We were very lucky to see the father and the chick walking up a driveway together. Unfortunately for the photo shoot (but maybe not for our safety ) the birds walked away from us.
