Southern African python or Natal rock python

Python natalensis

Description:

We saw this young snake (2 - 3 ft) in the cars headlights, lying straight across the road. As we watched it contracted it's neck looking as if it was getting ready to strike. After a while it gave a half-hearted strike and wound itself into a circle as in photo 4,

Habitat:

On the road towards the Park Entrance, coming from Magadzavane Lodge.

Notes:

Taken by the light of the car's headlights and with flash.
