Canary Brimstone Butterfly

Gonepteryx cleobule cleobule

Description:

Gonepteryx cleobule is an endemic species of Canary Islands divided in three subespecies, cleobule in Tenerife, eversi in La Gomera and palmae in La Palma, is much bigger than its relatives in Europe. They always stop with closed wings, male upperside is bright orange and females are yellow.

Habitat:

It lives up to 1900m mainly in Lurel forests where they find their hostplant, Rhamnus sp.
