Hamadryas epinome
Lepidoptera, family Nymphalidae. Approximately 4 cm in length, very well camouflaged over the trees. In this case over a rusty 8 inches oil pipe.
The picture was taken in Jujuy, in Caimancito. this was the first time I found this butterfly in this province. Usually, they are reported in Misiones or in the Mesopotamia provinces.

Quite beautiful and effective camouflage!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Diego!
I love it! An incredible example of mimicry and camouflage!
