Gymnothorax eurostus
Close-up views of the head of a relatively small (~ 0.5 m long) brown and white mottled moray eel, extending from the reef crevice in which it was harboring.
Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.
Spotted offshore of Leeward Oahu; location notional but accurate to within a couple of miles. Date not certain but probable. Original media photoprints, taken with Nikonos III using flash and close-up kit; prints subsequently scanned and images saved as digital file.
Nice spot this moray eel species tend to be more yellow than white color as adult so this most still a juvenile :)
