Wattle Tick Scale

Cryptes baccatus

Description:

A large community of scale on a small sapling which I didn't think was acacia. So yet to determine plant species. Some smallish all black ants were in attendance nearby but not nearly enough for an infestation of this size - the whole plant was covered.

Habitat:

In a local nature reserve adjoining a national park.

Notes:

They remind me of Lilypilly.
order: HEMIPTERA
suborder: STERNORRHYNCHA
superfamily: COCCOIDEA
family: COCCIDAE
