A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
An entomologist gave a wonderful workshop about arthropods at school. The children were amazed with the interesting things shown and mentioned; and with the beautiful arthropods of different kinds he brought with him. We got to take care of all of them and observe them while Carlos spoke about the magnificence and needs of these amazing creatures.
Tarantulas are quite common in Uruguay and can be seen here and there.
Once, when my daughter was around two and a half - maybe three and a half - years old, she was sitting in our living room and she suddenly asked me if tarantulas hurt. I found the question awckward but I answered that they didn´t; that they were hairy and big and in a way sort of "looked" scary but that they didn´t hurt and were good for nature because they ate other insects. And that was it. On the following day an enormous tarantula walked by through the living room.
