Red Leaf Monkey

Presbytis rubicunda

Description:

Mother and infant feeding in the trees. Endemic to Borneo. 'It is found quite high in the mountains and is the least threatened colobine on Borneo. '

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

Troupes of Red Leaf Monkeys were fairly common in Tawau Hills park. I woke up one morning in the hostel, walked out my door and spotted one feeding in the open in a tree right beside the hostel. A troupe passed through the area and then came back in the afternoon to the forest behind the hostel. They were fairly calm and just kept feeding as Chun Xing Wong and I observed them. Spotting #2700!

We saw one of these last year in Tawau! I was so excited but did not get a picture. She was on her own. Maybe she now has a baby. Lovely spotting Dan.
Why do I always envy you ;-)
