Mazegill

Gloeophyllum sp.

Description:

Flat bracket fungi rough on top, pale, labyrinthine fertile surface, white new margin... Instead of coming from the timber of a eucalyptus log, these were growing from the inner suface of the huge sheet of bark, partly separated from the log. The log was from messmate or stringybark. The largest ones were about 70mm across and maybe up to 15mm thick.

Habitat:

In a small nature reserve adjoining a large, eucalyptus dominated national park.

Notes:

Gloeophyllum separium is a possibility.
