Vine Hawk Moth

Hippotion celerio

Description:

Large moth (wingspan about 6cm) with brown, khaki and cream patterns on the wings and body. You can just see a patch of red on the hindwings.

Habitat:

Seen on our front porch in Roma, Queensland.

Notes:

The Vine Hawk Moth is found in Africa, Southern Europe, Central and Southern Asia and all states of Australia. This is the first one I have ever seen. : )

Another sighting this evening in Springfield Lakes, Qld. The one I photographed is almost 3" in length. Above the door of my patio. So beautiful.
