? Grass Galls

Description:

A few of the clumps of grass showed small (about1.5mm wide) pale green waxy button-like growths with thick and slightly undulating margins. They were on stems and leaf blade. The plant tissue was slightly raised as if the growth was erupting out of it.

Habitat:

Spotted on common Couch Grass ( Cynodon dactylon) in a native reserve

Notes:

When I examined the blade of grass (I brought home) today, it was all shrivelled and interestingly, the growths appeared like little crusty lumps - they had lost all the moisture. I believe that the growths were caused by some irritant introduced by an insect perhaps ? I have therefore tentatively placed this spotting under "Arthropods" and will review this once I have an ID. I would greatly appreciate any information on these weird but interesting growths. Thanks

Good idea Martin, Thanks. Will look into it. I've never seen anything like this before. It looked like a splash of pale green paint, at first glance.

This is unusual.
I don't know what it is but I would start by researching nematodes.
