yellow headed blackbird female

Xanthocephalus xanthocephalus

Description:

A dusty red, or light brown bird with long legs. About 7 inches tall. A lighter brown head with an almost white stripe behind the eyes.

Habitat:

This is the only time I've seen this bird, so I assume the habitat is the wetlands or places with water. This bird never flew but ran and hid among the small reeds around the water.

Notes:

This bird was seen at an extremely dry Cheyenne Bottoms. Less than 1% of the wetlands had water during the Spring of 2013.
