Acanthocephala terminalis
This plant-feeding species of insect equipped with hypodermic-like proboscis which is used to inject plants with tissue-dissolving saliva and then suck out the resulting "slurry." It also has leaf-like shapes on the tibia and femora (which lend this insect its name).
Perching in a Japanese maple tree in my overgrown back yard before a rainstorm.
