Virginia Creeper

Parthenocissus quinquefolia

Description:

A specimen of Virginia creeper, a very neat plant often mistaken for poison ivy. Oddly enough I found this plant growing right next to a vine of poison ivy. Despite one of its names being five leaved ivy, it's not an ivy at all, and is in fact related to the grape family. Virginia creeper is a favored ornamental shade plant in home gardens.

Habitat:

Native to North America.

Notes:

It should be noted that this plant is very similar to both poison ivy and a plant called the False Virginia Creeper, the main difference between it and the latter being that the False Virginia Creeper does not have adhesive pads at the end of its tendrils, which this one did.
