Sanguinaria canadensis
Bloodroot is one of the first bloomers of the year. The blooms come up with the first leaves. It's called bloodroot because the of the orange/red sap that it stores in it's rhizome. They have very unique leaves, that I can't really describe.
Found on the forest floor. These were found on the bank of an old creek bed.
Several flowers were found in the same area, but no other bloodroot flowers were found in the park.

Luckily, that snow missed us. Things are turning green quickly now. I'm so glad spring is finally here!
I would have thought they would have been up earlier too, but everything is way behind! I saw your spotting on Dicentra cucullaria the other day, and was super surprised because they are only starting to sprout here. Probably that 3 1/2 inches of snow I got a week ago threw everything back a bit.
These are popping everywhere here! Great shot Logan.
