Starburst Anemone

Description:

Greenish Sea Anemone with sticky column that shell bits stick to. Striped oral disc. These are solitary anemones.

Habitat:

Intertidal pools

Notes:

They get defense about their territory from other anemones from a different genetic colony . In the image the one on the left detached itself when it got too close to the one on the right. It rolled down to escape. You can see the specialized tentacles called acrorhagi that have a concentration of stinging cells. These tentacles will have white tips and look swollen.
