Ring-billed Gull

Larus delawarensis

Description:

A little hard to spot because of its light-gray speckled feathers that blend so well with the stone, but right in the middle there is a baby seagull. There was a huge flock of nesting seagulls on the shore of Lake Ontario, awfully gregarious. As the name suggests, these seagulls have a dark ring on their bill.

Habitat:

A migratory bird found throughout Canada and United States. They nest in groups, and tend to return to the same spot every year.

Notes:

The park wasn't too crowded, and people did come fairly close to this huge group of gulls -- but not too close to avoid distressing them.
