Clasping Heliotrope

Heliotropium amplexicaule

Description:

Low, spreading herb with hairy stems and bright purple flowers on a curving terminal spike. Native to South America and considered an invasive plant in Australia.

Habitat:

Growing on the edges of a dry retention pond in full sun.

Notes:

Visited by many small butterflies including Firyy Skippers, Southern Skipperling, Duskywings and various small sulphurs.
