A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Rhinella marina
About 12cm long. Native to Central and South America, this species was first introduced to northern Australia in the 1930's, to control the sugarcane beetle. Not only, was this unsuccessful, but the Toad became (and is) a major problem for local wildlife, mainly predators which have no defence against the toad's toxicity.
Area of farmland interspersed with patches of tropical rainforest.

Thanks for the nomination, Ashley!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
Thanks, António! My pleasure.
