Common Garden Snail

Helix aspersa

Description:

Shell width was about 4cm.

Habitat:

I found this snail at night time after work. It had been raining for days. It's the first snail I've seen for many years. There is some undisturbed bushland nearby.

I've moved this snail from the Arthropod category to the Other category for you. Snails and slugs are Mollusks. Arthropods have an exoskeleton and jointed limbs in at least one phase of their life. Think dragonfly, bee, crab, and ant.

I'm unsure? Maybe Christiane can answer that for you :)

Are this the kind of "Snail" used for Escargot?! Helix pomatia or Helix aspersa?

I was so surprised to see him! Something I never expected, a common snail :) I don't know that I could ever bring myself to eat one :)

He looks like he's been buried for some time.
Would you like me to send you some?

Same down here in Brisbane, Leanne. It's years since I've seen one. Grasshoppers and ants make up for it though.
