Tarantula Hawk

Description:

Large wasp with blue-black body and bright, rust-colored wings.

Habitat:

Tarantula hawk species have been observed from as far north as Lakewood, Washington in the United States, and south as far as Argentina in South America, with at least 250 species living in South America.

Notes:

I suspect this individual is a male as it was substantially smaller (inch and a half) than the other tarantula hawks I've seen out prowling around.
