Manta birostris
Known for its large size, broad head, triangular pectoral fins and horn shaped cephalic fins located on either side of its mouth. Horizontal flattened body with eyes on the sides of the head behind the cephalic fins and gill slits on its ventrical surface. Its tail lacks skeletal support and is shorter than its disc like body. The dorsal fins are small at the base of the tail. The largest Manta can reach 1,350kg with a width of 7mtrs. Typically black on top with pale markings on the shoulders. Ventrically it is white with distinctive dark markings by which individuals can be recognised.

I was very lucky to swim with these beautiful creatures although my fastest kicking using special long flippers was nothing compared to their graceful 'flying' under the sea. Troublw was I didn't have a good underwater camera :(
