Zelia sp.

Zelia sp.

Description:

Fairly large long legged fly with black & white bands and red eyes.

Habitat:

This is the second time I've noticed it/one. Both times resting on this same pine. A large debris/brush pile is not too far off from this spot, though, and branches from several trees have recently been deposited on it (bringing lots of insects and eggs with them). "semi-wooded" suburban yard.

Notes:

A parasite to beetles
