Small-ish bird, barbet-like in shape. Large beak, with starkly contrasting white and black stripes on it's head, changing to barring on its back. It's wings are barred with black and pale yellow, and it's underside is als pale yellow. Best told from the Red-fronted Tinkerbird by the yellow (not red) forehead, though the shade can differ in individuals.
Woodland and savanna.
This bird was nesting in an old branch that was hollowed by either the same or another pair of Tinkerbirds a few seasons ago.
