Rufous Hummingbird

Selasphorus rufus

Description:

Tiny bird with a very long slender dark colored beak. Rufous or reddish brown coloring with white on breast and underside. Rufous females have green on back and cap.

Habitat:

Tree line,field and fence near marsh water and bay.

Notes:

This is one of a few little Hummingbirds I observe that live in the wild. They frequent the Morning Glory flowers and Bird's-foot Trefoil. An old fence is an occasional resting spot for Hummingbirds and many other small birds. The fence borders the abandoned property.
