No Fox squirrels as far as I know. R.I. DEM lists 5 types of squirrels in R.I.: Eastern gray squirrel, Southern flying squirrel, Red squirrel, Chipmunk and the Woodchuck. I knew missing the front of the skull would make an ID more difficult. There are Muskrats around here also. My first thought was a raccoon or woodchuck.

Appears to be a large rodent maybe. Do you have fox squirrels nearby? Or groundhogs? The very front of the skull would have helped.
