Ida orchid

Ida sp

Description:

Large, terrestrial orchid, not sure of the species. The genus was split off from Lycaste in 2003 by Henry Oakeley and Angela Ryan. Species in Lycaste that were endemic to South America and the Caribbean Islands were placed into the new genus Ida and those found in Mexico and Central America stayed in Lycaste.

Habitat:

cloudforest, 2400m

Notes:

I spotted this growing together in a huge clump beside a species of Xylobium orchid. I was blown away to see both of them growing together.
