Goliath Heron

Ardea goliath

Description:

Large, massive wader, and largest of herons, growing up to 150cm in length/height. Rich chestnut colored head, neck and underparts, with grey back, wings, and legs. Throat striped black and white. Sports massif, dagger like dark bill.

Habitat:

Solitary forager, wades usually alone in estuaries, lakes and large slow moving rivers, and likes places with extensive reeds and papyrus. Here o shores or close to shores of lake Awasa.
