Carolina Wren (Fledgling)

Thryothorus ludovicianus

Description:

A small, chunky bird with a round body and a long tail that it often cocks upward. It has a distinctive bill, which is long, slender, and downcurved. Both males and females have bright, unpatterned reddish-brown coloring on their back and wings, with tan-orange underparts. They also have a long white eyebrow stripe. This bird was very fluffy, and I'm guessing is still a fledgling. Whenever the wind blew on this little bird, you could see black underneath (see the 4th picture).

Habitat:

Sitting on top of a wood pile at Pratt Nature Center. I could see its siblings hopping around in the protection of the wood pile with their mother, but this little bird was the only one brave enough to sit on top.

Notes:

See here for the spotting of this bird's mother: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/231...
