Rock Pipit

Anthus petrosus

Description:

This poor bird had a damaged right foot that looked like it had been caught in something and squashed. He came up fairly close to me, 2 metres to be exact.

Habitat:

Coastal Village, harbour wall

Notes:

Fighting between a Dunnock and a Wren but this is very similar to the photograph of the Dunnock on the RSPB website. Been told that this is actually Pipit. Thanks Malcolm

Water and Rock Pipits were once considered the same species but have been split for some time. The outer tail feathers appear grey and not white and the underside is dark and not almost white. Both these factors and the location and habitat are more indicative of Rock Pipit. The Water Pipit is more likely to be found in the inland areas of North Wales although migrants can turn up anywhere.

Not a Dunnock Peter, check the Pipits.
