Many-plumed Moth

Alucita phricodes

Description:

A small moth with a wingspan of about 15mm. Fore wings appeared darker than hind wings. All wings had coppery grey patterns and looked pleated like a Japanese paper-fan. Each wing had 6 sets of "plumes". Grey brown eyes were prominent. Body had a small white bar across.

Habitat:

Spotted on a wall under bright lights. Caterpillars of this species are said to feed on flowers of the Bignoniaceae family http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au... There are several plants of this family growing in this suburb.

Notes:

A very unusual and beautiful moth and an exciting find for me ! Family: Alucitidae
