Yellow-bellied or olive whip snake

Our guides referred to this snake as a yellow-bellied whip snake due to its obvious markings. When departing Explorama Lodge just off the Amazon River, this version of Mr. No Shoulders decided to hang down from the thatched leaves covering a walkway leading to our waiting boats in order to apparently bid us farewell. Two guides with luggage chanced going beneath the snake who appeared to be investigating its surroundings. The snake appeared to be at least five feet in length. A staff member of the lodge then went and got a broom and nicely pushed the snake back up through the leaves above the walkway. It was a hearty group with whom I was traveling, as when someone first yelled "snake," everyone ran toward the sighting with cameras in hand. Needless to say, I had my camera, too!
