Chocolate-bordered Sapphire

Iolaus maesa

Description:

Iolaus maesa, the Chocolate-bordered Sapphire, is a butterfly in the Lycaenidae family. It is found in northern Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria (south and the Cross River loop), Cameroon, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo (Tshopo) and Uganda.

Habitat:

The habitat consists of forests. The larvae feed on the flowers of Loranthus incanus.

Notes:

Very spectacular in flight. It was dodging a flight of swallowtails when it perched on this cream-coloured wall in a unexpected but brilliant camouflage. This was the best I made of it before it fled.
