Devil's Flower Mantis

Idolomantis diabolica

Description:

Idolomantis diabolica, commonly known as the Devil's Flower Mantis or Giant Devil's Flower Mantis, is one of the largest species of praying mantis, if not the largest that mimic flowers. It is the only species classified under the genus Idolomantis. East Africa.

Habitat:

The devil flowers are diurnal ambush predator. Their appearance that mimics leaves, is camouflage. When organisms adapt in shape, color and attitude a part of their habitat so that they are just more difficult for visually perceptible oriented roommate this habitat, it is called mimicry. This camouflage is a part of the defense against predators, on the other hand can not detect potential prey to lurking predators.
