Golden Spanish Fir

Abies pinsapo Aurea

Description:

The Golden Spanish Fir belongs to the Pinaceae family and is a coniferous tree that is arguably one of the most beautiful of all conifers. This is a young one only about 2 meters tall. It will reach a maximum height of 8m. The rigid, tapered leaves radiate from all sides of the branchlets and the new foliage emerges a golden-yellow colour before maturing to green. The new cones are red and look like raspberries.

Habitat:

Spotted on a newly landscaped property in North Bend, Wa.

Notes:

A quality landscaping tree because of its slow growing and low maintenance. Often planted in rock gardens. This is a cultivated tree whose natural range is southern Spain and northern Morocco.
